Health care industry Baden-Württemberg

Fastest growing branch of industry

The significance of health as an economic factor has been demonstrated many times. Experts attest that the state as a health care location has great opportunities for growth. Our aim in Baden-Württemberg is to enhance the potential of health care and the health industry.

The health industry in Baden-Württemberg is a guarantor for jobs and will thus help to secure the future of the state. Even today, around 590,000 people work in this branch of industry in numerous different professions. More than every tenth employee obliged to pay social insurance contributions worked and still is working in the health industry. The health care sector is therefore the branch of industry with the most number of employees - before mechanical engineering, the retail trade and the public sector. This also applies to two thirds of the urban and rural administration districts in Baden-Württemberg. In 2030, this will amount to over 20 per cent of all employees, according to experts. Here, the nursing will be the primary engine for growth. With currently 35 billion euros of health expenditure, the health care industry is one of the most important factors characterising Baden-Württemberg as a location for industry.
